計算の仕組み

Recommended length blends two signals: (1) typical format duration from Edison/Spotify research, and (2) audience listening context (commute averages 27 min, workouts 38 min, deep listens 75+ min).

File size = bitrate × duration. 128 kbps × 60 min = 128/8 × 3600 ≈ 57.6 MB. Most directories cap at 500 MB per file.

計算の仕組み

Two things are computed. The recommended window intersects a format range with your listening context: the low end is the larger of the format minimum and 0.7 × the audience minimum, the high end the smaller of the format maximum and 1.2 × the audience maximum. File size then uses the midpoint of that window, as (bitrate ÷ 8) × minutes × 60 ÷ 1024 megabytes, so 128 kbps for an hour is about 56 MB. The table repeats that size math for five durations.

Topic / format moves the answer most: Interview, the default, targets 35–65 minutes where Daily news / brief targets 5–12. Audience type then clips that window, with Commute (20–40 min), Workout (30–45 min) or Deep listen (60–120 min). Ad load changes nothing about the recommendation; it only subtracts 1.5, 3 or 6 minutes for Light, Medium and Heavy to show content time. Encoding bitrate touches file size alone, and 64 kbps AAC speech halves the megabytes of the 128 kbps default.

The ranges are baked-in editorial rules of thumb, not measurements of your own retention data, and nothing about your show's depth or pacing is modelled. Size assumes constant bitrate, so VBR encodes, artwork and chapter tags shift the real file by a few percent. Pick a mismatched pair, Daily news / brief with Deep listen for instance, and the two clamps cross, so the window prints backwards as 42–12 min. Read that as a contradiction rather than a recommendation.

よくある質問

How big is a 60-minute podcast file at 128 kbps?

About 56 MB. The tool computes (128 ÷ 8) × 60 × 60 ÷ 1024, which is 16 kilobytes per second across 3,600 seconds. Dropping to 64 kbps AAC speech halves that to roughly 28 MB, which matters when your host caps monthly bandwidth.

What bitrate should I export a talk show at?

The list offers 64 (AAC speech), 96 (MP3 mono), 128 (MP3 stereo standard, the default), 192 (high quality) and 256 (music-heavy). Speech-only episodes are served well by the mono options; the higher two exist for shows carrying a lot of music.

How long should an interview episode be?

Interview targets 35–65 minutes before the audience clamp is applied. Pick Commute and the ceiling drops to 48 minutes, Workout and it drops to 54, while Deep listen pushes the floor up to 42 and leaves the ceiling at 65.

Does ad load change the recommended length?

No. Ad load subtracts 1.5, 3 or 6 minutes for Light, Medium and Heavy from the midpoint of the window and reports the remainder as content time after ads. The recommended range itself is driven only by the format and audience selections.

Why does the recommended range sometimes read backwards?

The floor and ceiling are clamped independently: the low end takes the larger of the format minimum and 0.7 × the audience minimum, the high end the smaller of the two maximums. Pair Daily news with Deep listen and they cross, printing 42–12 min. Treat that as an incompatible combination.
