The tool subtracts the bar weight from your target and halves the remainder to get the per-side load, then fills that figure greedily: it takes the heaviest plate you have marked as available, repeats while the remainder still allows it, and moves down the stack. Available denominations are 25, 20, 15, 10, 5, 2.5, 1.25, 0.5 and 0.25 in kg, and 45, 35, 25, 15, 10, 5 and 2.5 in lb. It then reports the true loaded total and either Exact match or how much you are short.
Bar weight and your plate inventory drive everything. The bar dropdown offers a 20 kg men's Olympic bar as standard plus a 15 kg women's bar, a 10 kg EZ curl bar, a 27 kg trap bar, and a custom entry for anything else. Tap any plate chip to grey it out and the greedy fill will stop using it, which is how you model a gym that has no 1.25 kg or no 35 lb plates. The Go up by field, default 5, bumps the target for your next set.
The fill assumes an unlimited supply of every denomination you leave switched on, so it will happily ask for five 25 kg plates a side. Greedy is also not always optimal on a restricted inventory: with only 15s and 10s available and 20 kg needed per side, it takes a 15 and reports being short, even though two 10s would be exact. Bar presets are stored in kilograms and converted for lb mode, so the Olympic bar reads 44.09 lb rather than a round 45.
With the standard 20 kg Olympic bar, that is 80 kg of plates or 40 kg per side. The greedy fill gives one 25 kg plate plus one 15 kg plate on each end, which is an exact match with no remainder.
Yes. Enter the total you want on the platform and the bar is subtracted first. If the target is below the bar weight the tool says Target < bar weight rather than showing a negative load, and the summary line always restates the bar weight it used.
Tap the 1.25 kg chip to switch it off. It fades out and the greedy fill stops using it, so you will see a larger remainder on odd targets. Every denomination is toggleable, and the kg and lb inventories are tracked separately.
The presets are defined in kilograms and converted at 2.20462 lb per kg, so the 20 kg Olympic bar becomes 44.09 lb. If you train on an imperial 45 lb bar, choose Custom / no bar and type 45 to get exact plate maths.
Twice your smallest available plate, since plates are mirrored. With the 0.25 kg microplates enabled that is a 0.5 kg increase; in lb mode the smallest listed plate is 2.5 lb, so 5 lb is the minimum step.
